          School Clubs

With a wide variety of offerings, students can explore their interests. From Model United Nations and Mock Trial to the Drama Club, K-F students easily connect around shared interests through our clubs.

          Kew-Forest Model United Nations (UN)

Achieving Personal Growth; Gaining A Global Perspective; Promoting Civic Engagement

The K-F Model United Nations Club is one of the most popular extracurricular activities in the high school. Model UN is an elaborate role-playing and group problem solving exercise in which each student assumes the role of a UN delegate representing their assigned country on a particular UN committee. The goal of each committee is to develop proposed solutions to several problems assigned to the committee. Committee topics involve some of the most challenging problems facing the world today. Conferences are typically hosted by universities and can involve upwards of 3,000 students. At conferences, students not only improve their public speaking and critical thinking skills, but also learn how to collaborate, persuade, and lead.

K-F students who participate in model UN take a full year elective in International Relations and are also trained by Club leaders in public speaking, caucusing, and research. Club members have also had opportunities to attend foreign policy briefings with diplomats from the nations they are representing. In recent years, K-F students have met with representatives from the Netherlands, Germany, and Indonesia. Some Club members have earned individual awards and recognition for the excellence of the their work at conferences.

Approximately 40% of K-F students will participate in at least one major Model UN conference in the upcoming school year. Few, if any, high schools in New York State would be able to make such a claim!  In the upcoming school year, K-F will be attending three major conferences including conferences at the University of Virginia and Harvard University.

          Mock Trial

Mock Trial Prepares Students for the Courtroom

As an extracurricular that trains students to be well-versed in all aspects of a trial, Mock Trial helps students with their public speaking skills, ability to think quickly under pressure, and problem-solving skills that require an eye for detail.

With Mock Trial meetings taking place on a daily basis in the lead up to the competitive trials, K-F's team works very hard. To prepare, the team studies old cases and researches each case's subject matter, discussing different perspectives, watching documentaries, and consulting with professional attorneys on how effective their case theories are.

Through this program, Kew-Forest students have the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of civil and criminal law and courtroom procedures. Around New York City, thousands of students participate each year in this program.
